Houston container drayage at Bayport and Barbours Cut

SK Transportation pulls import containers from Port Houston, delivers export loads back to the terminals, and returns the empties. One dispatch team watches every box from vessel to dock.

Two terminals, one dispatch team

Most ocean containers in Houston move through Port Houston's two container terminals: Bayport (BPT) and Barbours Cut (BCT). Both sit near La Porte on the Galveston Bay side of the city. We pull imports from both, deliver export loads to both, and return empties to whichever terminal is taking that line's equipment that day.

We also run containers to and from the Union Pacific and BNSF rail ramps in Houston, so a box that arrives by rail is handled by the same team as one that arrives by ship.

How a Houston import move runs

  1. Your delivery order arrives. Send it by email. We read it, set up the shipment and confirm the delivery address, the receiver and any references you need on the paperwork.
  2. We watch the container. Vessel discharge, availability, holds and last free day come straight from Port Houston's terminal system. You don't have to send us status updates.
  3. We book the gate pass. Port Houston uses Express Gate Pass appointments. We book the pass in the terminal's own system so the driver arrives with a confirmed slot.
  4. The driver delivers. Live unload or drop, as your receiver prefers. GPS on the tractor gives a live ETA and logs the arrival when the truck reaches your gate.
  5. Proof and the empty. The driver takes POD and EIR photos in our driver app. They are on file the same day. The empty goes back to a terminal that is open and accepting it.

Holds and last free day

A container can be on a customs hold, a freight hold or a line hold. Sending a truck to a box that can't leave the terminal wastes a trip, so we check holds before we dispatch. If a hold doesn't clear, we tell you, not the other way around.

Every container's last free day is tracked. Boxes close to it are flagged each morning. If your dock can't take the box in time, we can pre-pull it to our Houston yard and deliver when you're ready. See warehouse and pre-pull in Houston.

Where we deliver

We deliver across the Houston area, including Baytown, La Porte, Pasadena, Pearland, Katy, Sugar Land and The Woodlands. Longer runs inside Texas are quoted case by case. Put the delivery ZIP in the quote form and we'll tell you what we can do.

Special cargo

Not every box is a standard dry load. We handle:

If the cargo needs to come out of the container, we can transload it in Houston onto a trailer or into storage.

What you see from us

Frequently asked questions

Which Houston terminals do you serve?

We serve both Port Houston container terminals, Bayport (BPT) and Barbours Cut (BCT). We also move containers to and from the Union Pacific and BNSF rail ramps in Houston.

Do your drivers have TWIC cards?

Yes. Our drivers are TWIC-carded, so they can enter the terminals without an escort.

What happens if my container is close to its last free day?

We track the last free day on every container and flag boxes close to it each morning. If your dock isn't ready, we can pre-pull the container to our Houston yard and deliver it when you are.

Can you move overweight containers in Houston?

Yes. Heavy containers move on tri-axle chassis. Tell us the cargo weight when you ask for a quote so we plan the right equipment.

How fast do you answer a quote request?

We reply within one business day. Houston dispatch is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central.
